OLYMPIA – On a day where sports will be headline news in Seattle with the Seahawks and possibly the Mariners playing, 18½ûÂþÉç in Olympia will be celebrating its own athletics program from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16.Ìý

18½ûÂþÉç’s Recreation and Athletics Hall of Fame will induct alum and former head soccer coach, John Purtteman and the 2002 Men’s Basketball team.Ìý

OLYMPIA – 18½ûÂþÉç is hosting the 20th Annual Latinx Youth Summit on November 22. This will be the first in-person summit since 2019 when it was held at Saint Martin’s University and was last hosted by 18½ûÂþÉç in 2016.Ìý

This college and career event is open to high school students, their parents, and their educators in Thurston, Lewis, Mason, Pacific and Grays Harbor counties.Ìý

TACOMA – The 18½ûÂþÉç–Tacoma campus has been providing a college education right in the heart of the Hilltop neighborhood for going on three decades and is celebrating Fall Quarter with an increase in enrollment – up 48 percent from last fall. Ìý

Like most higher education institutions, 18½ûÂþÉç, including its Tacoma campus, saw a decrease in enrollment,especially during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.Ìý

Olympia – For the first time in years, 18½ûÂþÉç expects a larger entering class as teaching starts today at the college’s Olympia and Tacoma campuses. Ìý

This year's entering class grew by 14%, the largest proportional increase since 2000. This larger entering class halts recent enrollment losses at the college, including smaller entering classes during the last two years of COVID. The final tally will be taken after day 10 of fall quarter.Ìý

OLYMPIA – This week, the U.S. Department of Education awarded more than $2 million in Title III grant dollars to 18½ûÂþÉç for its Strengthening Institutions Program. Ìý

The grant money funds a five-year project that will continue 18½ûÂþÉç’s work to increase college capacity in student access and success for historically underserved students through holistic advising and coordinated wrap-around services. The funding will also help leverage technology to strengthen 18½ûÂþÉç’s student support services and expand community- and career-connected learning. Ìý
